Map query introduction

This website allows the public to query a map of selected reported call types. The Stockton Police Department is pleased to make this resource available to the citizens of Stockton. While we continue to work hard to provide accurate and up-to-date information, the data are preliminary and may change upon investigation.

The City of Stockton has been divided into six (6) Policing Districts: Lakeview, Valley Oak, Bear Creek, Civic Center, Seaport, and Park The map uses color to designate the individual Districts.

The call types available for display are:

  • Aggravated Assault
  • Arson
  • Auto Burglary
  • Business Burglary
  • Grand Theft
  • Homicide
  • Malicious Mischief
  • Residential Burglary
  • Robbery
  • Stolen Vehicle
  • Vehicle Accident

Creating these maps involves the Police Department's Crime Information Center and Information Technology Unit as well as the City's Information Technology - Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Team. Using data supplied by the Police Department, the GIS Team uses a process called geocoding (geographic encoding) which cross-references specific addresses with X,Y co-ordinates. These co-ordinates represent the dots on the maps. For instance, the Police Department's address (22 E. Market St.) is represented by the co-ordinates: X=6333863 and Y=2169856.

To maintain confidentiality while indicating the approximate location, the dots on the map identify in general the street location but do not represent the exact location where the offense occurred or the offender lives. The zoom capacity has been limited and the dots have been enlarged and offset to keep the exact location from being determined.
